RE: I had to figure out that weird little mic port next to the headphone port. Did some research online, and checked a disassembled DS I have, tested the connections to make sure I know what does what. Then I found some kind of connector that probably came from a computer, and cut it down small enough to fit (I got lucky, I have no idea what that connector was for but the pins were the right distance apart), and soldered the two wires to a regular audio socket that I removed from a broken computer part. So I can plug in my PC audio through that, it actually works.
