Sudomemo originally started on a free VPS provider called Host1Free. There were very low resource limits but it was free, so that's what I went with since I was a kid with no money. The demand for Sudomemo quickly outstripped the server's resources and I upgraded to their paid tier, Host1Plus. Host1Plus had all kinds of odd issues here and there, like the network connection dropping out randomly or other weird things. Eventually I moved away to SoftLayer, which was pricey but far more reliable.
Nowadays Sudomemo uses multiple services from multiple different providers. Demand has fallen, but the complexity of the service with all of its different features we built for the Flipnote community has only grown.
