Hey there everyone, DeepRising here with the Weekly Newsletter and Weekly Topic competition.
We had a great response to last week's topic “Lenses And Prisms”, and a selection of our favorite winning entries are coming up.
But first here's some news about an exciting opportunity to become a Sudomemo Staff Volunteer.
We are seeking new volunteer staff in order to continue improving Sudomemo and serving the community!
- Character Designer: You will be tasked with character design, including things like personality, reference sheets, as well as creating bespoke art of characters performing certain tasks (e.g speaking, drawing, instructing, playing) to assist and encourage Sudomemo users. We are looking for very cute and simple styles in order to make the characters easy to draw and maintainable. You must be able to provide digital art files; experience in both pixel art and higher-res vector/raster art is desired. Please provide a portfolio.
- Localization Manager: You will work with our team of volunteer translators on a weekly basis to ensure that things are kept up-to-date and consistent in meaning. Some experience with Git/GitHub is necessary.
- Video Editors/Creators: We are looking for people who can create custom content for our YouTube channel in order to further engage users. Motion graphics, polished transitions, and deadline adherence are things we're looking for. Some of the content we'd like to produce includes site updates, event announcements/results, tutorials, and advertising material that adheres to our branding. Please provide a portfolio.
- Help Center Writer: You will both write articles upon request and identify where existing articles may need to be updated; or where a new article might be useful. Deadline adherence is important. You should be able to adopt our existing writing voice in order to integrate new content seamlessly. Graphic design ability is a plus.
Please submit applications over the next week.

And now, here are the winning Flipnotes from last week's topic "Lenses And Prisms".
Well done to everyone who entered.
When a lens is combined with a prism, light is both focussed and refracted with alarmingly destructive results in this Weekly Topic winning Flipnote by wohhdoh.
Created with fine line drawn characters inside a screen reduced presentation, the comedy really hits its mark with a deadpan look from the hapless recipient of the experiment!
Using the DSi camera Mirror Lense, mrjohn Wows us with a beautiful kaleidoscopic view of his room.
Achieved by placing the DSi on a coffee cup and turning it slowly, when imported into Flipnote the effect is truly mesmerizing. And is made even more so by the accompanying audio of a cascading harp scale.
We particularly enjoyed the mirrored curtain movement at the beginning, which gives the piece a theatrical feel as it opens up in to the rest of the scene.
Based on an fantastic sounding game that callmeDJ is making, this magical, prismatic weapon bestows upon its user the enormous power of refracted light.
Wow! It really packs a mighty punch!
Shrugging is a shoulder raising gesture used to express doubt, ignorance, and indifference.
“I don’t know!”
“You’ve got me there!”
“I’m not bothered!”
When any of these are accompanied with a shrug, you know exactly what is meant, and how they feel.
Your Flipnotes could feature any characters, subjects, and ideas you like, as well as expressions, dialogue, confusing and hopeless situations, and whatever else you can come up with to showcase your shrugs in the best possible way.
Let’s all make a befuddled shrug, Flipnote style!
We really love the way you're all so creative with these topics and look forward to seeing the Flipnotes you create for them.
Make sure to post your entries to the Weekly Topic channel Weekly Topic - The Shrugging Gesture and the deadline for your entries is October 15th (12pm EST / 4pm GMT).
We would also encourage you to add a description to your Flipnotes. This is your opportunity to explain any points of interest and specific details that we could feature in the topic winner reviews.
And don't forget, if you want a cool thumbnail picture on your Flipnote, whichever frame you save the Flipnote on, that will become the thumbnail. So choose your favorite frame for this, or add in a cool title page at the end, and save on that.
Keep on Flipnoting and the best of luck with your entries.
