Sudomemo Featured Artist: EminentLie (March 4th, 2020)

Hey Flipnote fans! After a several-week break to accomodate other events, we're glad to introduce our next Featured Artist, EminentLie!

EminentLie joined Sudomemo in the summer of 2014. Her dynamic animations often explore psychedelic themes and the many facets of personality.

Please tell us about yourself.

Hello! My name is Nicole, most of you know me as Eminent Lie or Emi. I am 23 years old and work/manage a coffee shop full time. I'm a relatively introverted person but do enjoy making conversations and going out from time to time. I love technology, cars, learning new things and love drinking a lot of coffee. Thankfully my job comes with free coffee!

Emi is a cartoon cat with a cocky, egotistical attitude that has been the face of my name for years. I love animating her to songs. It's fun to emphasize personality traits into cartoons. I find all my characters are an extension of myself in some way. Emi has been around the longest and has grown with me. She is a very special character to me, I even have her tattooed on my arm!

What are your interests or hobbies, and how do you spend your free time?

I enjoy drawing, making characters and creating cartoons of course! Also I spend a lot of time playing video games. If I'm not doing those things I'm usually browsing around on YouTube, watching anything from informational videos to comedic videos. I take a lot of pride in my work, I am very much a perfectionist when it comes down to it.

Please introduce some of your best Flipnotes, and tell us why you like them.

Sunflower (2019)

This first one is my most recent one...which was actually made a while ago. I like that it has my current style and, though unfinished, has movements unique to the two characters in it (Emi and Luna) showing off their friendship and having a good time.

I've been gone (2019)

This Flipnote was fun to make, I like it because I played with some lighting effects and animated a snip of it based on an older Flipnote I made back in 2014. Though it was not a remake or anything, it was fun to reference an older video! I also wanted to practice animating expressions in it.

Here is one where I had animated on top of an older video:

Oh No (2015)

The whole Flipnote was from a couple years ago but I got to take something I made in 2014 and add parts to it in 2015 with a newer skill. Though being only a years difference I was young and had learned more and more each year.

What techniques or skills are you especially good at in your Flipnotes? What are some techniques or skills that you wish to improve?

I haven't made an animation in a while, I would love to again soon. My style and designs have improved a lot over the 5 years or so of being on Sudomemo. So looking back at my Flipnotes I see flaws in them. I think I've gotten better with expressions and movement. I think I am good at keeping interest when my Flipnotes get viewed, which is a big plus! I would love to be able to be more fluid in the animations I make. I want to improve on what motion is getting animated, keeping the audience's focus on what I am trying to animate rather than there being too much going on and not knowing what to focus on.

Please introduce some of your favorite artists on Sudomemo.

Some of my favorite animators have been on here for a while, I know I have more but these are just the ones who have posted recently that I can think of off the top of my head.

I always enjoy mamallama's animations, they are fun to watch and Mamallama does a good job at making their animations look clean. Always keeping my interest!

I feel like I've seen SしurやieDoo's animations grow so much over the years she's been doing it and I love where she has come. Managing to animate so much detail on a small screen while keeping it fluid and keeping the proportions accurate amazes me!

I have also seen Natsuki's style evolve and change over the years of being on sudomemo. I have been lucky to watch her animation style develop since the beginning of Sudomemo and I'm proud of where it has come! It's always nice to see some of my fellow original Sudomemo creators still doing it!

Is there something you would like to say to the Sudomemo community?

I've love to make another animation soon, I love being able to inspire others. And I know there are others and so many younger and newer animators that I didn't mention but are doing a wonderful job!! I'm always entertained with all the new names and talents I see popping up in the Hot Flipnotes. So good job to you who might be reading this! And never stop drawing or animating! The only way to go is up!!!
