Hey there, Flipnoters and Flipnote fans alike! Team Sudomemo here with our newest Featured Artist, BrainSlice.
BrainSlice exploded onto the Flipnote scene in 2014 with many engaging Flipnotes, racking up fans, spinoffs and stars. His animation showed off a talent for 3D design, with objects morphing and shifting to match the early-2010s dubstep often paired with them. Glitch art and cinematic experiences aplenty can also be found within his repertoire of Flipnotes.
Please tell us about yourself.
Hello! I'm a strange creature from Portugal, and a graphic artist. I've been known as "BrainSlice" back in 2014/16, doing random little cartoons for Sudomemo.
What are your interests or hobbies, and how do you spend your free time?
For the most part I draw stuff, listen to music and play around with some programs on my PC.
Please introduce some of your best Flipnotes, and tell us why you like them.
Guess Who (2016)
I enjoy the "Guess Who" short because it's a product of a lot of things I enjoyed at the time. It seems like I picked elements from Skrillex's Recess teaser video and Eptic's animation. I also took inspiration from post-Internet glitch style, elements of the paranormal web things, gothic, symbolic and abstract imagery. My goal here was to create a brute and mysterious short.
Fire (2015)
"Fire" was a drum-and-bass short so it gave me freedom to cram in bits and pieces of animation with various styles and painted frames. It also gave me possibility to showcase a snapshot of a whole world with a colorful cast of characters.
How 2 Secret Diary (2015)
This one really needs no explaining.
The first Eptic inspired Flipnote with the "the end" song by the same artist has to be one of the smoothest and snappiest animations I've ever done. I could never reach this level of quality ever again…
For the last two: I did really enjoy the chaotic nature of TF2 SFM's, huh..

What techniques or skills are you especially good at in your Flipnotes? What are some techniques or skills that you wish to improve?
I think I'm pretty good at frame-by-frame animation. I believe that it provides to the animation a clean and seamless look and feel. What I wish to learn and/or improve are graphic simulations that some artists such as John is capable of, like 3D, digital UI, glitch, etc. Breaking the limits of Flipnote, really.
Please introduce some of your favorite artists on Sudomemo.
Here's a handful of artists I enjoy. I'll not name recent artists mainly because I've been inactive.
Salty Milk puts a ton of hard work and it shows in the animation style and design. Salty Milk is truly iconic.
Some of Tordoise's things are truly GOLD!
MattBoo[3] is truly a classic user for me. Feels like I'm watching an old cartoon on CN but stranger and more violent. He uses a ton of different sound effects and puts a lot of effort on storytelling.
Endy Cat's wonderful little things showed me the world of Flipnote shitposting.
God, mrjohn is the single greatest multimedia animator on Sudomemo. Master of the crafts, he's known for a lot of technically complex and stop motion animations.
Dee - another iconic creator. Even though Dee's known for his creepy hairy character and crude psychedelic animation, their art and ideas are charming and creative.
Kéké - this animator is another icon. Probably one of 'the icons' of Flipnote studio, and it is evident why. He's not only a master of movement, he's shown to create fun and delightful characters and designs.
Is there something you would like to say to the Sudomemo community?
Sorry I don't post anymore, but I've got some tips for fellow Sudomemo users: don't always rely on feedback, it may pull your improvement back. Do animations driven by the love for the art. You have in your palms an incredible tool to create magic. Seek inspirations from other artists and don't be afraid to learn new things, even if it seems too strange and outlandish. Don't be afraid to do things that you enjoy. Understand criticism mindfully and know how to ignore feedback that are negative for the sake of negativity. Promote your art!
