Hey there everyone, DeepRising here with the Weekly Newsletter and Weekly Topic competition.
We had a great response to last week's topic Solid as a Rock, and a selection of our favorite winning entries are coming up.
But first, if you're thinking about making a topic Flipnote, don't forget to check out next week's topic theme and it's description, as well as the subsequent Upcoming Topics listed at the end of the Newsletter.
And now, here are the winning Flipnotes from last week's topic "Solid as a Rock". Well done to everybody who entered.
Our first winning topic Flipnote this week, by Jake features the age old, rock based leisure activity of skipping stones across water.
However, as it is Wacky who is skipping the stones, it’s safe to say that total chaos ensues, and there’s not an un-bruised head anywhere in the vicinity.
Look out everyone, duck!
A rock solid warrior proves more than a match for his equally determined foe, in this beautifully drawn and animated, winning weekly topic entry, by Rey.
Even under an onslaught of attacks, he stands tall, as swords, chairs, cats, cows, and even a DSi all bounce harmlessly off him, without so much as a scratch!
What a fantastic interpretation of the topic!
Our next winning weekly topic entry, by Nikku4211 is designed as a ‘Sideways’ Flipnote. (So make sure to turn your DSi a quarter turn before you watch it).
With a nice twist of topic based word play, it stars Dwane the Rock Johnson. He certainly is a solid looking guy, and he really smolders up the screen in true Hollywood, and WWF fashion.
Using incredible Flipnote powers, a stick-man magically transforms himself into a rock-man, in this splendid topic winning entry by Goodi⬆⬇.
Nevertheless, his mate ‘H’ is suitably unimpressed!
There’s no pleasing some letters! “Chuckle.”
Menhirs are huge, man made standing stones that date back to the bronze age.
Watch, as with the power of animation, one is broken up into blocks, and used to build a safe space, living unit, in this topic winning Flipnote by Glin.
It looks really cozy.
We loved the cool drawing style and original characters in this rock-centric topic winner, by Keijos.
The exact opposite of last week, this week the topic theme is all about flowing.
From a constantly flowing river, or billowing smoke, to the flow of a magnificent ball gown, there’s many different things that have flowing qualities and movements to them. And with animation it can be fun to really emphasize this.
Whatever you choose for your flowing subject, try to create motions that give it grace, elegance, and fluidity. (A cycling Flipnote could be a way to go also.)
Here’s some ideas;
Why not try an abstract animation, and really focus on the movement.
Or come up with a creative interpretation of the theme, and surprise us.
Or maybe just go with the flow!
We really love the way you're all so creative with these topics and look forward to seeing the Flipnotes you create for them.
Make sure to post your entries to the Weekly Topic channel Weekly Topic - Flowing and the deadline for your entries is October 17th (12pm EST / 4pm GMT).
Also, we would encourage you to add a description to your Flipnotes. This is your opportunity to explain any points of interest and specific details that we could feature in the topic winner reviews.
And don't forget, if you want a cool thumbnail picture on your Flipnote, whichever frame you save the Flipnote on, that will become the thumbnail. So choose your favorite frame for this, or add in a cool title page at the end, and save on that.
Keep on Flipnoting and the best of luck with your entries.
