Get ready to throw down in Flipnote Studio

The Sudomemo Flipnote Fight Competition (FFC) is here! This is your chance to animate the ultimate showdown, frame by frame, punch by punch. Whether it's stylish martial arts, chaotic slapstick brawls, or over-the-top anime battles, we want to see your most intense and creative fight scenes brought to life. With cash prizes on the line and animation glory up for grabs, it’s time to throw down, show off your skills, and prove you have what it takes.

Competition Rules

1. Entry Requirements

Entries must be created using Flipnote Studio on the Nintendo DSi. Your submission should be a single Flipnote.

2. Content Guidelines

The focus must be on fighting animation Sound and music are encouraged for atmosphere, but judging is based on animation only

3. Submission Method

Upload your Flipnote(s) to the Sudomemo Spring 2025 FFC channel The channel opens on Sunday, April 13th 4. Deadline

All entries must be submitted by Sunday, April 27th at 23:00 EST

The judging period will be: Sunday, April 27th 23:00 EST to Saturday, May 3rd 17:00/5PM EST

Prizes

1st Place: $700

2nd Place: $500

3rd Place: $300

Winners will also receive featured Flipnote spots on Sudomemo and eternal bragging rights.

Judging Criteria

The judges for this round of Sudomemos FFC are Hyun, Hatena360, Sopple, Yunero and CerealBowlby. Each entry will be scored based on the following criteria:

- Choreography & Fight Design: 35 points

Creative, clear, engaging combat flow. Good rhythm, spacing, escalation.

- Animation Fundamentals: 10 points

Use of weight, timing, exaggeration, arcs, etc. Believable motion.

- Visual Appeal, Style and Polish: 20 points

Clean presentation, strong posing, appealing design choices.

- Creativity & Originality: 10 points

Unique ideas, clever techniques, unexpected moments.

- Innovation: 5 points

Are there innovative uses of techniques, styles, or methods to the animation?

- Story and Character: 20 points

Is the story engaging? Are the characters interesting? Does it leave an impact after watching it?

Total: 100 points

Scoring and Placement

Before judging begins, all entries undergo a brief quality check. To qualify, Flipnotes must clearly depict a fight scene with combat action. Qualified entries will then be scored by our five judges over one week.

Each judge will pick their top 3 entries and award them Gold, Silver, and Bronze based on their internal scores. Once all judges have voted, we will tally up the medals across judges to decide the winners.
