14 years definitely is a solid lifespan for this thing, though. My main gripe is that I'll have to eventually leave this account I've been using since 2014 behind... That's all I really care about. Oh, well.

...or maybe not, I know with the 3DS you're unable to transfer NAND to another system without bricking it, so I'd assume the DSi would be similar. Research is telling me so. Oh, well.

Honestly, the NAND backup idea is a very solid one... I've dabbled in 3DS modding for almost over a decade now and I know the DSi isn't super complex in comparison. Researching DSi repairs doesn't turn up a lot of reliable results outside of doing it on your own (I don't trust myself lol) so using a replacement seems like my best bet. Just hoping Sudo acc data somehow stays intact...

im not completely sure if it would work, but if you really want to keep the account, make a backup of your dsi's NAND. Theres probably a way to transfer that backup into another target dsi, or you can run the NAND from the sd card using mods. Or if you think the motherboard could be fixed or are fine with it being the way it is, you can buy a japanese dsi (since they're the cheapest) and replace the motherboard of that one with the dsi that you have right now, that's better than replacing the screens as screen replacement is HARD without messing anything up, its also what I did with my dsi when the screen and shell were breaking.

I've never heard of anything like this happening but this sounds like it sucks going through this...

I will say that -- as far as the screen goes -- I had that problem for YEARS and my console still soldiered. You learn to ignore the blue glitchiness over time, it's not that big of a problem. Main concern is the freezing.
