The Gamecube's operating system is permanently burned into a custom chip and theoretically could last for centuries under normal use and proper care. The date and time are powered by a coin battery and those lose their charge overtime. Replacements are easy to find. Other examples of electronics with permanently burned custom chips are Playstation 1 and 2, NES, SNES, N64, Sega Genesis, some older DVD players, VCRs, and pretty much everything from the late 90s and older. I enjoyed your reaction! Hopefully I explained things a little better.
I'm not the best at explaining things first time. What I was trying to warn people about is any device that uses their own internal built-in flash memory to store their operating system (For example: Wii, DSi, 3DS, Playstation, Blu-Ray players, some newer DVD players, heck maybe even smart fridges, anything else that does system updates) will stop working because of flash memory decay. The Wii U is suffering from this problem right now. One day that will effect other electronics unless someone figures out how to replace their old flash chip.
